How To

Attorney or Lawyer

So, my friends I wrote a post on different kinds of powers of attorney. The post has done well. And I’m happy I was able to help so many of you guys. Back on topic, a lot of you guys were wondering if a lawyer and attorney was the same thing and if not, what are the difference between a lawyer and attorney. So today I will be breaking it down best I know how for you guys. I won’t hold you guys up any longer, let’s jump right into it my friends.

Difference

So, if we were to google what’s the difference between a lawyer and attorney you may see like this. An attorney has passed their bar exam test and therefore they can represent someone in court. And on the other hand, a lawyer can give you legal advice on a matter, but they have not passed their bar exam test and therefore they cannot represent anyone in court. Or you may see something along these lines, a lawyer is someone who has graduated from law school but hasn’t passed their bar exam test. Just to clear some of this up right away my friends. The American bar association says an attorney and lawyer are the exact same thing. Remember that first I said you may see on google about them being different? My friends no one is allowed to give anyone legal advice unless he or she has passed the bar exam test, or they have a license to practice law. That other difference we spoke about is also a big misconception about only an attorney can represent you in court. If you’re headed in to court your most likely to want a trial lawyer. There’s a lot of difference lawyer that specializes in different areas. We can go over that another day my friends. Also, I wanted to say my friends if someone graduated from law school that doesn’t make them a lawyer. When someone graduate from law school that just gives them a Juris Doctor. They still need to pass the bar exam to practice law. Now ironically there’s four states in the USA where you don’t need to graduate law school to take the bar exam and become a lawyer.

The Biggest Difference

The biggest difference between the two is one is a far more superior negotiator than the other. Because they are the better negotiator, they are able to charge their clients more. That’s the big difference my friends and that would be the attorney. They got the big words and skill set for negotiation.

Summary

There you have it my friends everything I know about the difference between the two. Like I said in the beginning of this post this topic came from a post I did on the different kinds of power of attorney of my other site. But my friends take this information and do with it what you want but do your own research before you make any decision on anything. Good luck guys!
